What an evening of formalities, fellowship, fun and good food!

The VIPs included our Guest of Honor DG Henry Tan & his wife PP Irene (who arrived at 2110 hrs because of another important Lions event), VDG Bobby Eng & his wife Rosie,Honorary Lions Ong Kian Min & Prof Arthur Lim as well as Prof Donald Tan, several PDGs and Cabinet Officers, along with several other Lions, 2 female Lions from Canada and of course our Twin Club KL Host President Chan Weng Khai. We were happy to see Lalit Maheshwary who came in as the Club and exceeded our expectations with 115

President’s guest. It is heartening to see the big turnout of Club Members and Prospective Lions too.

We all met old friends and got to make new ones too. The mood was all round jubilant and joyous.

The door gifts were a key chain by courtesy of President Patricia Kong and the Membership Book by PDG Han Thien Fong. PP Davie Ong, PP KK Tan, New Lions Helen Chong & Zhuang Ronglin were at the entrance doing the reception.

The programme started at 2000 hrs (15 minutes later than scheduled but we caught up subsequently). Dinner, 4 courses, were served. The food was substantial and good, many thanks to the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. With suspension of all food serving, we commenced our Official Programme at 2100 hrs with President Patricia Kong calling the meeting to order. PP Gan Kah Keng led in the singing of the Lions Song: We’ve got the Lions Spirit. PP Peter Heng did the Lions Protocol by recognition of all present. Next VDG Bobby Eng did us the honours by inducting 3 new lady members, Lion Helen Chong (sponsored by PDG Han Thien Fong, Lion Alice Chia (sponsored by President Patricia Kong) and Lion Zhuang Ronglin (sponsored by PDG Han Thien Fong). Charter Secretary PP Prem Pauk Ohri did the Lions Re-Dedication following by an all members cake cutting.

To further improvements for the upcoming Singapore Host Club Golden Jubilee Celebrations in November 2008 tentatively, because the Guest of Honour has yet to confirm his attendance. As it is many already confirmed attendance like PCC Jeffrey Quah, PCC Albert Tan,PDGs John & Lay Lay Loh, Lions Club of KL (Host), Lions Club of Hong Kong (Host), Lions Club of Penang Light, Lions Club of Bangalore East, CC Krishna Reddy, ……………………………………………………………. .

The Meeting was adjourned. Dinner resumed. For the first time in Singapore Host Club’s 49 years history, we had karaoke and beer drinking which enlivened the mood and added more joy and jubilation to everyone present. As a whole, I am convinced everyone left in a happy and satisfied mood.

I wonder: Is anyone seriously worried about Lions Clubs International?

The nature of our annual transient Lions leadership is probably the root cause of our problem. Then the owners must be the salaried LCI Headquarters staff members –but are they given the rooms to think outside the box

 We can look forward

Who is counting – all are welcomed, to a limit of the first 500 people only!

Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.
