We have kicked off the year with a great starter! We had our official District Governor Night Oct 13th with DG Ron Ewles inducting our new members: Cubs- Roy Armstrong, Jone Barry, Clinton, Gloria, Aaron and Sara Simpkins. Our membership has grown to 30 members.
We are getting in the swing of things with preparing for the MD5 Convention June 3,4 and 5 here in Saskatoon. We have about 80 Lions from South, North Dakota and Saskatchewan already registered and are expecting about 250 to 275 Lions.
Our club will be host club and we ran the Halloween Steak night Fundraiser on Oct 29th for the Icebreaker decorations to help keep costs down. This was kind of CREEEEPPPYYYYYY with Lions dressed up as other creatures.
We continue on at The Cave restaurant on every second and fourth Tuesday at 6:45pm where the meals are good and the humor is plentiful.
We have had members volunteering at bingos, eyeglass pack, blind bowling, Texas Hold’em poker tournaments, Visions luncheon and our President Lion Tom and Treasurer Lion Ken have been out harassing, ahhh, rather visiting some of the other Clubs.
We have been doing some donations as well. A computer with software will be going to a client who is blind, $1,000 donated to the Children’s Wish Foundation, $200 to the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society to help them purchase some much needed equipment for archives, and a donation to Lions Foundation of Canada in memory of Lion Judy Serblowski.
Education to members is important too. We do snippets at our meetings for the new members to understand the structure of Lions and the Lions programs. We are inviting guests to speak about health issues like Alzeimers, Osteoporosis etc.
Tag Day for Diabetes was Nov 14th at Sobey’s Preston Crossing. We gave out stickers to customers as they were leaving the store and we raised $213.91 and ran out of stickers at about 1:30pm. This was the first World Diabetes Day and it is planned to be an annual event.
Santa project is gearing up to start at the end of November at Market Mall. All members participating must have police checks. Anyone interested in participating should contact Lion Andra.
Zone meeting will be Nov 29th at 238 Ave V North @ 1:30pm. There will be a focus on Secretary training and some basic computer filing for those interested.
They are also running another Avgen gift card fundraiser for those interested. The Band’s Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament is at the Coachman is Nov 21st.
We had Lou Moore from the Osteoporosis Society as a guest speaker at the last meeting and she enjoyed it so much she may join our club.
Our annual Christmas party will be held at Tiffanys with Lions from the Martensville and Downtown clubs joining us on December 15th. This is above the Alley Katz where we had the Halloween Funraiser.
We will go out for a dinner with a gift exchange and finish off piling into vans to go thru the Christmas Light display at the Forestry Farm. We have entered a partnership with the Centennial and the Downtown Lions to sponsor a moving display in the Enchanted Forest. Lion Doug Farnsworth informed us at the 5CA/CN convention planning meeting last Thursday is was going to be the Santa throwing snowballs display.
Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.
